Shannon + Cal

A soon to be doctor falls in love with a teacher… OMG it’s the cutest!

Shannon: Cal and I first met in May of 2012. His best friend was dating one of my good friends at the time. The first time we met was at a track meet; the two of them were standing on the sidelines with a soccer ball. When we met I didn’t think much of it other than he was a nice guy. A few months down the road my friend suggested that I meet him again and give it a try. I was a little cautious at first and was not too sure what to expect. July of 2012 is when things really began. Cal is pretty shy so his friend suggested for me to reach out to him first. With some hesitance I sent him a message to break the ice. We started talking a little bit here and there to get to know each other a little bit. About a week in we planned to hang out with our two friends. Our first date was a double date to laser quest, then back to his house for swimming. It was the first of many great dates. 

With Shannon making many of the FIRST moves… she takes the WIN for professing those three little words first. It was a surprise when Cal planned the proposal! 

Shannon:  March of 2018 Cal took me to a nice dinner for my birthday at The Different Point of View. Being together for almost 6 years this was the first dinner for us that ever required a reservation. (Therefore I was a little suspicious) The food was great and the views even better. Before we took off the waiter asked if we wanted to go out on the patio to take some great pictures (Cal arranged for this). We took some facing the guy then he suggested we turn around and get some pictures of us looking at the amazing view. At this time Cals sister and her boyfriend snuck in to get some pictures of the moment. (They were not at dinner with us) As we started to turn back to the waiter Cal stopped us mid way and got down on one knee. I was stunned and so happy I could care less about the ring and just wanted to hug him. It took a few minutes for me to finally let him put the ring on me but then I was right back to hugging him. When things were all done at the restaurant we headed back to his house to celebrate with both our parents. Little did I know when we walked into the house all of our friends and family were there for one AMAZING engagement party that Cal arranged. I was beyond shocked that I began shaking, it took me about 30+ Minutes to stop. It was an incredible evening that I will never forget.

Wedding Planning Time: 

What was the color palette and style vision of your day?

Our colors for the wedding were gray and slate blue. My overall vision was a play on rustic chic. I love exposed wood and greenery so I definitely wanted to incorporate that but I also wanted it to be classy/ elegant without getting too fancy. We wanted our wedding to be as fun for our guests as possible. So we included lawn games and a great interactive DJ to keep the party going.

What was your favorite moment during your day?

Our favorite moment is that there were no issues and that everything ran so smoothly. It allowed Cal and I to enjoy the entire day/ evening.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone planning their wedding?

Get your self a great DJ and photographer! The DJ can make or break the evening and if you have amazing photographer(s) like Joe and Dana they help keep things run smoothly, along with capturing all the memories you may not personally notice throughout the night.
