Amanda + Jordan
“A ravenous girl eating a skewered 8oz piece of steak in pure delight… Aaaaand it was true love at first bite!”
HOW DID YOU FIRST MEET?
One day, Amanda and some friends went on an adventure to find a grill. they searched all day until they found the perfect spot to chill. Once they started cooking, a friend got a call. Someone saw our grilling efforts and wanted to join us all. As this special someone walked up, he saw quite a sight. A ravenous girl eating a skewered 8oz steak in pure delight… Aaaaand it was true love at first bite!
WHO SAID THE THREE MAGIC WORDS FIRST?
Amanda did! But Jordan likes to say that he knew it all along.
HOW DID JORDAN PROPOSE?
Jordan had planned months ahead of time to propose while Amanda was completing her medical rotations in Denver, Colorado. He had picked a weekend when some of our closest friends would be able to fly to Denver and join in on the special day. He had her grandmother’s ring, a location, the people, and even someone to take pictures. But there were some things out of his control. In true Denver fashion, a winter storm only meant to be a “dusting” turned into 10+ inches in just a few hours. With canceled flights, unsafe roads, and no sleep… Jordan was able to get to Denver despite it all. With less than 3 hours of sleep, he drove to Red Rocks Amphitheatre to set up the rest of his plan. Many Many hours later, and unbeknownst to Amanda, she walked the steps of Red Rocks. She was enjoying the fresh snow and beautiful clear day with her friends when Jordan walked out onto the stage of the Amphitheatre. After almost knocking him down in excitement, he decided to keep it short and sweet to avoid any chances of messing things up. With a mixture of laughing and crying, she said yes. He asked for her hand, she said “which one?!” Despite everything, it worked out and yes, she got the ring on the right (left) hand.
WHAT WAS YOUR COLOR PALETTE AND STYLE VISION FOR YOUR EPIC SESSION?
We wanted to go for outfits that complimented the desert colors, which was why we chose a lot of whites, dusty rose, and light blues. We were able to incorporate our own individual styles along with extra elements that made it whimsical desert vibes, which was perfect!
WHAT UNIQUE ELEMENTS DID YOU USE?
Jordan and I love to travel, and our relationship is built on a lot of growth we have had through the trips we have taken together. We wanted our engagement shoot to capture our love for adventure as well as our desert roots which is why Epic Monument Valley engagement photos fit in perfectly.. We never thought it could be a reality! Another unique element would be the ring itself. It actually was Amanda’s grandmother’s ring. The center stone was her grandmother’s engagement ring that was given to her when her grandfather proposed in Chile, and the surrounding setting was an anniversary gift. They were married on Christmas Day, and the ring itself kind of resembles a snowflake.
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE MOMENT?
Our favorite moment of the day was having a HORSE involved in the photo shoot, mostly by force. Amanda chased down (literally, in a dress and flower crown) the man who owned the horse and convinced him to stay a little bit longer for us to take some photos. Joe pretty much sprinted across monument valley to get the greatest shots of that moment in record time, and Dana supervised. It was all very much worth it, and the photos make us smile EVERY time.
ADVICE TIME… WHATS SOME ADVICE YOU WOULD THROW AT A COUPLE PLANNING THEIR ENGAGEMENT SESSION OR TORN IF THEY SHOULD EVEN DO ONE?
Be yourselves. The most amazing thing to be able to experience is seeing your authentic selves shine through in photographs. It seems so difficult to avoid being awkward in front of a camera, but with encouraging guidance from your photographers and being in the moment with each other, it pays off immensely. Being able to trust Dana and Joe as they brought out the best of both of us is really evident in all the incredible photos they took
